India's 14th prime misiter Narender Modi assumed g20 presidency 2023

Newsnomics AJAY ANGELINA reporter | India’s prime minister assumed the presidency of G-20 on Thursday Dec 1 over 19 countries Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, 
Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, the United States,

and the European Union, making a strong pitch for "fundamental mindset shift" to shape a new paradigm of human-centric globalization. 

In an article penned for newspapers across the globe, Modi underscored the theme of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (One World, One Family, One Future), and listed terror, climate change, pandemic as the greatest challenges that can be best fought together.

"It is time to get inspired by our spiritual traditions which advocate oneness and work together to solve global challenges," prime mistier Modi said.

“India would aim to depoliticize the global supply of food, fertilizers and medical products, so that geopolitical tensions do not lead to global disruptions.”

To mark the first day of India’s Presidency, a special University Connect event was organized along with

students from 75 universities across the country, and distinguished speakers like External Affairs Minister, Dr.

S. Jaishankar and Principal Secretary to Prime Minister, Shri P.K. Mishra aimed at engaging the youth in G20

activities. 

Moreover, The Hornbill Festival in Kohima today featured a special focus on G20. One hundred monuments,

including some UNESCO world heritage sites, are being specially illuminated today, and citizens have been

invited to join a selfie campaign on MyGov around these illuminated monuments. Sand artist Shri Sudarshan Pattanaik created sand art of India’s G20 logo on Puri beach in Odisha. 

The G-20 website has been launched by the PM is migrated to g20.org including the twitter handle @g20org, from the previous Presidency.

On Thursday, India also assumed the presidency of the UN Security Council for the month of December

during which it will host signature events on countering terrorism and reformed multilateralism.

India was also handed over the chairmanship of the Wassenaar Arrangement, a multilateral export control

regime, at the 26th annual plenary in Vienna in Austria.
