Newsnomics AJAY ANGELINA reporter | South Korean ministry of justice has opened a ‘Tason Cafe’ in the civil affairs office of the Seoul Eastern Detention Center on Tuesday December 20,2022, along with Zero Camp and the Korea Legal Protection Welfare Corporation, to support female prisoner’s stable return to society.

At the opening ceremony, Minister of Justice Han Dong-Hoon expressed his gratitude to the concerned

people, including Bool-Am Choi, Chairman of Zero Camp**, and Woon-Sik Choi, Chairman of the Legal

Protection and Welfare Corporation, who spared no support in opening the cafe.

'Tason Café' aims to provide professional skills and operational experience programs to the female prisoners

to acquire baking and barista licenses through vocational training courses at correctional facilities for their

stable return to society.

‘Tason Cafe’ facilitate the ex. prisoner women to get a job at an excellent company or start a business and

also help to those having difficulties in initial social settlement thereby preventing recidivism due to financial

crisis to create a crime-free society. 

For this purpose, zero camp is in charge of external technology guidance and the counseling department for ex-prisoners. Whereas accommodation and meals are provided by the Korea Legal Protection and Welfare

Corporation.

The Ministry of Justice will review the stabilization and performance of ‘Tason Café (1st branch)’ and has

planned to expand to large correctional institutions in large cities.

Han Dong-hoon, Minister of Justice, South Korea said, "We will make efforts to continue effective rehabilitation support policies that instill hope and faith in a new life for inmates and help them easily adapt to society in

the early stages of release."
