and departures in South Korea has been increased to 326% in the year 2022 compared to the previous year, as the quarantine policy was eased. 

The number of immigrants was only 4,559,693 in 2021 that increased to 19,414,228 in 2022, displays the big visualization data of the ministry of justice.

The data shows that, the increased number of Koreans is 12,889,166 (6,309,021 arrived and 6,580,145

departed), and the foreigners is 6,525,062 (3,390,009 arrived and 3,135,053 departed), which is about twice as many Koreans as foreigners. 

“The number of departed Koreans increased by 433% (1,234,697 persons), and the number of foreign arrivals

increased by 225% (1,044,545 persons) compared to the previous year 2021.” 

During the month of December 2022, the number of arrived and departed travelers was 3,880,658, up to 50% compared to the number of arrived and departed travelers (7,727,061) in December 2019 that is gradually

increasing.

In the case of Incheon Airport, the number of arrivals and departures for the month of December 2022 was

3,143,677, shows the increase of 55% compared to 5,694,252 for the same month in 2019. 

Last year, the most popular travel destination for Koreans was Japan with 1,093,260 departures, followed by

Vietnam with 1,051,754, the United States with 714,630, Thailand with 484,085, the Philippines with 434,534,

Singapore with 239,547, Guam with 211,288 and China with 52,203.

Whereas, the arrivals in South Korea shows the visits of Americans the most with 610,103, followed by Japan with 309,460, China with 250,876, Vietnam with 239,269, the Philippines with 206,529, Thailand with 185,409,

and Singapore with 165,713.

Meanwhile, the data released by the ministry of justice declares that, the number of foreigners residing in

Korea is gradually increasing shows the ratio of 89%.

The total number of foreigners residing in Korea is 2,245,912, with 15% increase as of December 2022

compared to 2,524,656 people in 2019 and 1,956,781 in the same month of the previous year 2021 as per

data report.
