Over 700 foreign nationals allegedly living in Pakistan has been detained in Quetta and Islamabad, a day after the federal government announced the deadline of Nov 1 for illegal foreign nationals especially Afghan nationals to leave Pakistan.

The spokesperson of Islamabad police said in a statement that 1,126 people were interrogated during the operation, and 503 were allegedly found to be living illegally.

About 623 people were released after presenting the legal documents, the statement added.

Islamabad police said, the entire process was carried out without any “unpleasant event” adding linking criminal elements to illegal foreign nationals was “false equivalence.”

On the other side, over 200 Afghans allegedly living illegally were arrested from several areas of the provincial capital of Quetta said Hamza Shafqat, the Division Commissioner.

The action against illegal buildings on Quetta’s drainage channel has begun and 11 such structures are already sealed, Mr. Shafqat added.

He claimed that there are over 1,000 illegal residential and commercial complexes which cause natural disaster threat.

He also said 20,000 auto-rikshaws were operating on the roads in the provincial capital out of which only 8,000 are registered.

In addition, 18 roads in Quetta have ben converted into one-way roads with barriers to improve the investigation system.

Commissioner Quetta, Hamza Shafqat said, "the strict legal action inclusing seizing their properties and business will be taken against those providing shelter to aliens with no legal documents."
