14,359 shipbuilding production workers deployed by South Korea

South Korean government has announced the success of employing 14,359 domestic production workers that will work for the ship building industry.

 

A total of 14,359 domestic production employers including domestic workers, skilled workers (E-7), and non- professional workers (E-9) has been deployed by the third quarter of 2023 in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and Ministry of Employment and Labor.

 

This figure exceeds the production workforce of about 14,000, which was predicted to be insufficient by the end of 2023. 

 

“The shortage of manpower predicted for this year was quickly supplemented as a result of efforts by combining capabilities across all ministries” said the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

 

A total of 2,146 people were trained through customized human resource training for job seekers by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, out of which 2,020 were linked to employment by the third quarter of 2023.

 

As for skilled manpower (E-7), the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Shipbuilding Association have completed employment recommendations for a total of 7,765 people by the third quarter, and the Ministry of Justice has completed visa screening for 6,966 of them are being deployed to the field.

 

A total of 5,373 people for Non-professional personnel (E-9) are being recruited to small and medium-sized shipbuilding companies by the Ministry of Employment and Labor issuing employment permits to as of the third quarter.

 

In addition, the Ministry of Justice plans to expand the supply of skilled foreign workers by converting E-9 foreign workers in the shipbuilding industry who meet requirements such as proficiency and Korean language skills to skilled workers (E-7-4) visas.

 

South Korean government is planning to secure the training type E-7 Visa, since it is necessary to secure a stable production workforce for smooth construction and export.

 

“We will support securing manpower in the industry through continuous system improvements such as visa and expansion of employment for international students, while also inspecting the working status of foreign workers and the status of operation of social integration programs for each company to support the stable settlement of foreign workers entering the country” announced by the ministry of Justice.
