Newsnomics AJAY ANGELINA reporter | China expresses resolute opposition and strong protest against the
visit of Vice-Chairman Jung Woo-taek and some members of the National Assembly to Taiwan, China without permission, and meeting people such as Ing-Wen Tsai and Shi-Kun Yeo from December 28~31,2022.
“We firmly oppose any form of official exchange between Korea and Taiwan” mentioned the China’s Embassy
in South Korea.
“This seriously violates the one-China principle and the spirit of the China-ROK Joint Statement on Diplomatic Relations and runs counter to the development of friendly relations between China and the ROK.", the
embassy added
“The Korean National Assembly plays an important role in Korea's political and social life. The vice-chairman of the National Assembly of Korea should be aware of the Korean government's external commitments, and this visit to Taiwan is a violation of Korea's promise to China, sending a serious false signal to the 'Taiwan indepen-
dence' forces and undermining the political foundation of friendship between China and Korea. It should be
recognized that this will be very high and will have a serious impact on China-Korea relations.
China has already proposed stern negotiations with the South Korean side, and the ROK side clearly recog-
nizes the harm of this incident and takes timely measures to address the adverse effects. We solemnly urge
you to not engage in any form of official exchange with the Taiwanese region and to safeguard the entire
phase of China-ROK relations through practical actions” says the statement issued by the embassy of People's Republic of China in the Republic of Korea.
The diplomatic ties between China and South Korea states that, “the Republic of Korea recognizes the People’s Republic of China as the only legitimate government of China and respects the position that there is only one China and Taiwan is part of China.”
The one-China principle has become the consensus of the international community and the basic rule of international relations.
The current situation in the Taiwan Strait is “very” complex and “sensitive.”
Korea has also paid attention to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and has mentioned it several times.
However, what threatens the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait the most is the stubborn separatist
activities of the “Taiwan Independence” forces, such as Tsai Ing-wen and Yeo Shi-kun, and the illegal neglect of some outside forces.
