Newsnomics AJAY ANGELINA reporter | On Friday Nov 26, A Muslim student at the Manipal Institute of
Technology in Udipi, Karnataka, India confronts teacher on calling him a “terrorist” in the class.
The professor had reportedly asked the student his name, and on hearing a Muslim name, had blurted: "Oh, you are like Kasab!" Ajmal Kasab, the lone Pakistani terrorist captured alive after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks,
was executed in 2012.

By hearing such comments from his professor, the student shouted: "26/11 was not funny. Being a Muslim in
this country and facing all this every day is not funny, sir. You can't joke about my religion, that’s too much in
such a derogatory manner. It's not funny sir, it's not,"
The professor apologized to calm the student and said "You are just like my son..."
"Will you talk to your son like that? Will you call him by the name of a terrorist?" the student replied.
When the professor said "no", the student continued: "Then how can you call me like that in front of so many people? You are a professional, you are teaching. A sorry doesn't change how you think or how you portray
yourself here."
After the video went viral, the institute suspended the teacher on Monday Nov.28 and ordered an inquiry to
look out the matter.
Speaking with India Today, SP Kar, Director of Public Relations, Manipal University, said, "We condemn such
kind of incidents as we are an institute that believes in Sarwa dharma (equal respect to all religions) and
Vasudha Iva Kutumbaka (one world, one family). Appropriate action is being taken on this issue and we are
doing the needful. Counselling is being given to the student, and the professor has been suspended from the college."
“The professor later had a conversation with the student and issued a personal apology too,” the report
claimed citing sources. “The matter was also said to be resolved between the student and the professor.”
