Meta's Nick Clegg predicted India on the route to becoming "digital superpower"

Meta’s President for Global Affairs, Nick Clegg touched upon various aspects of India’s data regulatory regime during his visit to India for the 3-day Global Tech Summit organized by Carnegie India in New Delhi.

UK deputy prime minister, told ET's Aashish Aryan and Surabhi Agarwal in an exclusive interview that “the

country is “on route to becoming a digital superpower” and that in some respects, it already is.
 
Clegg, who is on a week-long visit to India overviewed that there is also greater awareness that India plays a

unique role in the digital ecosystem and the country is on the way to becoming a “digital superpower,” 

 

“India’s take on digital issues is “refreshingly straightforward”, He added that the Indian government is seeking to carve out regulations for India and not just taking off-the-shelf versions from Europe, the UK, Canada or the US. I do think there is a real awareness that India plays a unique role in the digital ecosystem. India's ambition in pursuing this ‘TechEd’ is a totally legitimate one.” said Clegg


Coming back to past 2 decades, India has been able to make inroads into IT & Engineering services and accelerate innovation for global companies. Many of the global companies are eyeing at Indian talent for accelerating their innovation by having stronger presence in India and also hiring Indian leaders to top positions.  

This gives confidence that India has the right innovation eco-system to nurture the talent and it is evolving as well.
