Newsnomics AJAY ANGELINA reporter | On Wednesday Dec 7, BBC disclosed names of 100 influential and inspiring women of 2022 around the world, among which Justice Ayesha Malik is the only nominated Pakistani woman.
The BBC highlighted that Justice Ayesha has authored judgement protecting the rights of women, including
her “landmark judgement which banned the so-called two-finger test of rape victims” was performed during
the examination of sexual assault cases until they were outlawed in 2021.
“Alongside her role in the Supreme Court, Justice Ayesha also conducts training for judges around the world and has inaugurated conferences for women judges in Pakistan, encouraged the debate around including the gender perspective in the justice system”.
“Women must build a new narrative — one that includes their perspective, shares their experience, and includes their stories,” said Justice Ayesha.
Ayesha Malik is the first female judge of the Supreme court in the history of Pakistan appointed on 6 January 2022 by the Judicial commission of Pakistan, took her oath of office on 24 January 2022. She also served as a Judge at the Lahore High Court, Pakistan from 27 March 2012 to 5 January 2022.
Other women on the BBC's list include singer Billie Eilish, Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska, actresses Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Selma Blair, the ‘tsarina of Russian pop’ Alla Pugacheva, Iranian climber Elnaz Rekabi, record-breaking triple jump athlete Yulimar Rojas, and Ghanaian author Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah.
