Newsnomics AJAY ANGELINA reporter | In 2023, the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the European Union (EU) will celebrate their 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. In this regard the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Belgium and to the European Union and Permanent Mission to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization has presented the results of the Korea-EU Public Mutual Perception Survey and the award ceremony for the Korea-EU 60th Anniversary Logo Design Contest on December 8.
Yoon Soongu, an Ambassador to Belgium and the EU, and Gunnar Wiegand, Managing Director for Asia and Pacific of the European External Action Service (EEAS), has expressed their hope for “the Korea-EU relations,
grown closer over the past 60 years, would expand to future-oriented areas, including the digital sector and
climate change.” In their welcoming remarks.
The "Korea-EU Mutual Public Perception Survey" showed the positive results that Korean and EU citizens generally had positive perceptions of cooperation for each other’s country in terms of economic affairs and trading matters as it would help set the way forward for future Korea-EU relations.
Korean nationals thought that robust cooperation is underway in cultural affairs and climate change, whereas EU nationals assessed that cooperation is strongest in economic affairs, followed by foreign affairs, security, and culture.
The Embassy has also launched a “Logo Design Contest” running from October to November for the purpose of using the creative logo in various occasions of 2023 including events related to the diplomatic 60th anniversary and its promotional materials.
A logo designed by a Korean national using Geon (sky), Gon (earth), Gam (water), and Ri (fire), symbols in the national flag of Korea, won the top award. The second-best award went to a Bulgarian national, and the encouragement awards went to two Koreans and one Belgian. The top winner of the contest will be honored with award at the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea on a separate occasion.
