Death toll rises above 9,500 in Turkey, Syria massive earthquake

About 5,700 buildings have collapsed,at least 20,426 injured and many are trapped in the rubble

 

Newsnomics AJAY ANGELINA reporter | The death toll from a massive quake that struck Turkey and Syria now rose to more than 9,500 on Wednesday, the official data shows.


About 6,957 people had died in Turkey and 2,547 in Syria, the Officials and medics.


 

But there are still chances to increase in the number of dead as the rescuers race to reach trapped survivors

for a third day in freezing temperature.


The World Health Organization has warned that up to 23 million people could be affected by the massive earthquake and urged nations to rush help to the disaster zone.


 

 

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the chief of World Health Organization warned that time is running out for

the thousands injured and those still feared trapped.


Many of the nations including South Korea, United States, China and the Gulf States have pledged to help, a

nd search teams as well as relief supplies have begun to arrive by air.


Even the joy of rescuing a newborn baby was tainted with sadness in the rebel-controlled town of Jindayris.

 

 

A newborn baby was found alive from the rubble by Rescuers still tied by her umbilical cord to her mother,

who died in Monday's massive 7.8-magnitude earthquake, the only survivor of her family.
