2023 Korea-Pacific Islands summit, the first-ever Summit between the Republic of Korea and the pacific Islands is going to held in Seoul on May 29~30, 2023.
The first ever multilateral summit to be held in Korea signals the full-scale implementation of the ROK's Indo-
Pacific Strategy, the first comprehensive regional strategy in Korea’s diplomatic history.
The theme of Korea-Pacific Island Summit is "Navigating towards Co-Prosperity: Strengthening Cooperation
with the Blue Pacific" reflects the commitment of Korea and the Pacific Island countries to navigate the vast
ocean of the Blue Pacific as partners charting a shared course towards mutual prosperity through the first-ever Summit.
ROK attributed the key partners of Indo-Pacific Strategy as the ‘Blue Pacific Continent, rich in marine fish stocks and deep-sea mineral resources that contains unlimited developmental potential because of the tremendous
size of the Exclusive Economic Zones.
Indeed, Pacific Islands have an ever-greater voice constantly increasing their presence in the international arena and playing a leading role in the discussions on climate change, a matter of decisive importance to them
perhaps more than any other nations.
Pacific Islands are particularly important partners for Korea to contribute to the discussions and meet the ex-
pectations the international community has of it as a Global Pivotal State.
2023 Korea-Pacific Summit will serve as a forum for an exchange of views for “the realization of a free, peace
ful and prosperous Pacific.” The Republic of Korea, through win-win cooperation between the long-term
development strategy of the Pacific Islands countries, the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, and I
ndo-Pacific Strategy will seek to create a synergy.
In particular, the Republic of Korea through Resilience, Reinforcement, Revitalization projects will dramatically
enhance practical cooperation between Korea and the Pacific Island, together to address trans-boundary
challenges and achieve shared prosperity.
ROK-Pacific summit serves as a precious opportunity for the people of Korea and Pacific Islands to expand
exchanges to their mutual benefit.
In 2021, the 4th Korea-Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers' Meeting held via video-conference reached to an
agreement to elevate the Korea-PICs dialogue mechanism to the summit level.
At the 5th Korea-Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in 2022, ministers agreed to hold the first Korea-
Pacific Islands Summit in 2023.
