South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol holds a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Hiroshima, Japan while attending the G-7 summit on May 20,2023.
President Yoon and Prime Minister Modi agreed to develop cooperation in the defense industry, including self-propelled artillery, and advanced technology fields such as digital, bio-health, and space.
President Yoon said, “Korea and India, who share democratic values, should work together to respond to
regional and global issues.”
Prime Minister Modi also expressed his sympathy and replied, “both countries should strengthen strategic
communication and cooperation.
Both leaders decided to develop a 'special strategic companion relationship' between the two countries while continuing close exchanges including the possibility of the upcoming September G20 summit.
Both countries agreed to upgrade ‘Korea-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA)’
came into force in 2010, further expanding trade between the two countries and reforming new areas of co-
operation for the preparation of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and India this year.
“President Yoon also sought PM Modi's attention to apply appropriate customs standards to Korean
companies operating within India” said spokesman Lee.
Auler summit between the two countries also discussed regional and global sanctions, including the Korean
Peninsula.
Both countries agreed with the fact that Korea and India have similar views on various issues, are building a
framework of cooperation on the solidarity of democracy.
This summit is the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders to mark the 50th anniversary of
diplomatic ties between Korea and India this year.
The bilateral meeting held in Hiroshima while attending the G7 Summit was attended by President Yoon Seok-yeol, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Korean correspondents Ahn Yong-soo & Lee Dong-hwan and the Indian correspondents.
