Gyeonggi-Do first multicultural fire brigade’ launch ceremony

17 foreign volunteer members from 10 countries has been appointed for ‘the first multicultural fire brigade’ team to serve as a foundation for expanding firefighting benefits and bridge to spread a safety culture to foreign citizens.

The ‘Gyeonggi-Do first multicultural fire brigade’ launching ceremony was held by Chief Lee Jeong-yong of Gyeonggi Ansan Fire Department on June 2, with a motive to establish fire safety measures and provide foreign language interpretation services at various disaster sites and event venues to the multicultural community residing in the Republic of Korea.

 

 

According to the fire department, 17 foreign volunteer members from 10 countries who are permanent residents or having Korean nationality has been appointed for ‘the first multicultural fire brigade’ team. 

 

Kim Ha-jun Kim from Pakistan is appointed to perform his duties as an inaugural chief of the multicultural fire brigade.

 

 

Kim said, “Based on my diverse experiences and wide personal connections, I hope to become a small beacon for many foreigners residing in Ansan, playing a small but big role as a multicultural volunteer fire brigade member."

 

On the other hand, Lee Jung-yong, the chief of the fire department Ansan requested, "Since this is the first policy implemented by Gyeonggi-do, I hope that the multicultural fire brigade will settle down as soon as possible, serve as a foundation for expanding firefighting benefits, and serve as a bridge to spread a safety culture to foreign citizens."
