Over 300 Pakistanis died in the Greece boat tragedy

Johansson condemned the role of “smugglers”, they are not sending them to Europe, they are sending them to death. This is what they’re doing and it’s absolutely necessary to prevent it.

More than 300 Pakistani nationals became the victim of boat tragedy off the coast of Greece last week, out of which 12 are survived while the other 278 are still missing.


The Pakistani Embassy in Greece has reported 12 Pakistani survivors belongs to the different cities of Pakistan named Muhammad Adnan Bashir and Hasibur Rahman (Kotli district), Muhammad Hamza (Gujranwala). Azmat Khan (Gujarat), Mohammad Sunny (Sheikhopura), Zahid Akbar (Sheikhopura), Mehtab Ali (Mandi Bahauddin), Rana Hasnain (Sialkot), Usman Siddiqui (Gujarat), Zeeshan Sarwar (Gujranwala), while Irfan Ahmed and Imran Arain are under treatment in the hospital. 


Pakistan is in the midst of economic crisis as well as passing through the worst political turmoil that makes the life of people hard to survive. The number of Pakistanis are forced to take traversing routes to Europe in search of better life for their own self as well for their families.


Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, the Chairman Senate of Pakistan deeply mourns the tragic loss of over 300 Pakistani lives in the recent boat accident off the coast of Greece by disclosing the number in a statement on Sunday, sent condolences to the grieving families of the dead.


His office said in a tweet. “With heavy hearts, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the grieving families during this time of immense sorrow and grief. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and we pray that the departed souls find eternal peace. 


Pakistan Prime minister Shehbaz Sharif declared ‘a national mourning day’ on June 19 for the victims died in the boat tragedy.


He ordered a “high-level inquiry” into the incident in a tweet a day before on Sunday.


PM Shehbaz tweeted, “I assure the nation that those found negligent towards their duty will be held to account. Responsibility will be fixed after the inquiry and heads will roll.” 


According to the multiple reports the boat was overcrowded carrying around 750 people, 300 Pakistanis, 200 Egyptians and 150 Syrians, including around two dozen Syrian women and young children because of the refugee crisis confronting the European Union as tens of thousands seek sanctuary from war, persecution and poverty.


Every year, tens of thousands of migrants fleeing war, persecution, climate change and poverty risk treacherous routes to Europe in search of better life.


The United Nations Migration Agency (IOM) said, “about 750 men, women and children were on the packed boat when it capsized last week, killing hundreds and making the tragedy one of the worst in the Mediterranean Sea, according to the EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson.

According to the authorities, the Greek Coast Guard, Navy boats, ships and helicopters are carrying continuous rescue operation found 78 dead and still searching the others missing.


The government of Greece has declared three days of mourning in the country in view of this major boat accident and canceled all kinds of events.
