Newsnomics AJAY ANGELINA reporter | South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol is on six days official visit to
Lithuania to attend the summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) that will lead to visit Poland
later.
President Yoon along with first lady and his entourage arrived at Vilnius International Airport, Lithuania at
around 8 p.m. on Monday said the presidential office.
The NATO Summit is going to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday bringing together at least 31 countries to gather at one platform and four partner nations -- South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand with a
focus to discuss the Ukrainian war, the Indo-Pacific region, cooperation between the military alliance, and emerging security threats, according to the presidential office.
President Yoon will hold four-way meeting with NATO’s so-called “Asia-Pacific Four” partner countries – South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand – during his stay in Lithuania.
The highlighted meting is with Japanese Prime minister Fumio Kidisha on the issue of discharges contaminated water from the wrecked Fukushima nuclear power plant into the ocean Pacific that raised criticism in South Korea.
"If the Japanese side mentions it, (Yoon) will say what's necessary in keeping with the principle that we will
place top priority on our people's health," a presidential official told reporters last week.
Moreover, Yoon will hold sideline bilateral talks with leaders of at least 10 countries that include: Norway, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Romania, Lithuania, Sweden, Slovakia, Estonia, Finland and Hungary.
On Tuesday, President Yoon is scheduled to meet with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg to adopt
documents for bilateral cooperation across 11 sectors, including nonproliferation, cybersecurity and emerging technologies.
On Tuesday evening, President Yoon along with first lady Kim Keun-hee will attend dinner hosted by Gitanas Nauseda, the Lithuanian President.
Later on, Wednesday, Yoon will travel to Poland for a three-day official visit that includes Korea-Poland summit to improve the bilateral strategic partnership between the two nations in strategic sectors, such as arms,
nuclear power and infrastructure.
President Yoon is scheduled to have separate meetings with the Polish prime minister and with speakers of
the lower and upper houses of parliament, and also lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Yoon also plans to meet South Korean officials operating businesses in Poland, seeking to participate in post-war Ukraine reconstruction projects also to discuss ways the government can support them.
A business delegation consists of 89 persons will accompany Yoon for the representation of companies deal-
ing in rechargeable batteries, arms and nuclear energy, as well as construction companies.
Kim, the deputy national security adviser of South Korea said, the presidential visit to Europe this time is
expected to achieve three results: (1) strengthening international security cooperation, (2) expanding supply
chain cooperation and (3) promoting South Korea's bid to host the 2030 World Expo in the southeastern city of Busan.
