North Korea has no choice but to pursue complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization (CVID) as it is a legal obligation stems from eleven unanimous resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, leaving no room for choice, according to a statement released by the foreign ministry of South Korea on Tuesday.
The statement was released by the foreign ministry in response of a dialogue by Kim Yo-jong, the younger sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Monday, that criticized Washington's policies of strengthening its extended deterrence and military alliance with South Korea, arguing that such actions would only make it difficult for Pyongyang to engage in dialogue.
The ministry expressed concern over North Korea’s ‘deceptive behavior’ and said, it was impossible to ignore North Korea’s continuous enhancement of its nuclear and missile capabilities, despite having agreed to de-nuclearization on multiple occasions and receiving corresponding measures over the past 30 years.
The ministry urged Pyongyang to immediately cease its unjustifiable nuclear and missile developments, emphasized to return on the path of dialogue for denuclearization.
North Korea, with no choice must honor its international obligations and contribute to regional and global stability.
