A false accusation of desecrating Quran vandalize multiple churches and Christian colony

"Bibles have been desecrated and Christians have been tortured and harassed having been falsely accused of violating the Holy Quran."

Newsnomics AJAY ANGELINA reporter |

A false accusation of desecrating Quran and using blasphemous contents spread against Christian community on social media that resulted in terrible outcomes.

It said that the “Holy Quran was desecrated and the sentiments of Muslims were hurt..”

Around five-to-six-thousand-armed mob gathered in various areas of Jaranwala and attempted attack on the Christian colony after receiving instructions by their clerics that made announcements in mosques inciting the mob to protest against the Christian community.

In response, they brutally showcased their anger by blazing the Churches of the area, damaged the Christian houses and properties, burnt the Christian cemetery, desecrate the cross and the holy Bible.

According to the reports, the announcements were made in mosques, the police and rangers were sent to take quick action but tensions had already escalated due to the alleged desecration.

The police tried their attempts to prevent the damage, “But attempts to attack Christian settlements remained continued in different areas while the authorities continued to safeguard these localities.”

Pakistani authorities did not immediately share details of the losses and damages the armed mob had inflicted on the Christian community, but Christian leaders reported significant damage of multiple churches and Christian houses.

I was also surprised when I saw the videos on social media but Pakistani media was silent until the evening of Wednesday about the crucial act.

"Today, we have suffered great pain and sorrow when our churches were desecrated and burnt." Said Akmal Bhatti, the head of Minorities Alliance Pakistan after visiting the incident place.

The Punjab government of Pakistan attributed the incident to a “planned conspiracy under which an attempt was made to destroy peace in Pakistan.”

At night, the Punjab government issued the “high-level inquiry” directives to investigate the actual reason behind the brutal incident of blazing multiple churches and the Christian homes.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar give directives to the law enforcement agencies to apprehend “culprits and bring them to justice”.

“Rest assured that the government of Pakistan stands with our citizenry on equal basis,” he added.

Former prime minister Shehbaz sharif expressed his grief on Gujranwala incident and argue the government to take action against the culprits by saying “all religious places, Holy Books and personages are sacred and deserve our highest level of respect.”

Pakistan’s former foreign minister and the chairman of Pakistan peoples party (PPP) condemned the incident and said, “Horrified to hear about the attack on Churches in Jaranwala, Faisalabad, violating the sanctity of places of worship is absolutely unacceptable. The administration must ensure the safety of the Christian community and their Churches.”
