6.8 magnitude earthquake hits Morocco leaves at least 2000 dead

South Korean announced the close cooperation with Morocco added to meet the needs of the devastation including a team of relief workers.

South Korea is going to send humanitarian aid to Morocco to recover from the damage of deadliest earth

quake over the century, said the ministry of foreign affairs on Monday.

 

South Korean government announced the close cooperation with Morocco added to meet the needs of the devastation including a team of relief workers.

 

The 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit the Morocco late Friday night killed 2000 and caused devastation outside

of towns and cities, mostly in Marrakech and five provinces near the epicenter, reported by the Morocco's

Interior Ministry on Saturday night. 

 

At least 2,059 more people were injured out of which 1,404 are in critical condition — the Morocco’s ministry said.

 

The rescue operations remained continue during the weekend.

 

South Korean embassy in Morocco reported no Korean causalities as around 360 South Koreans are residing

there mostly in Rabat and Casablanca.

 

The US, Britain, France, Turkey and Ukraine sent first respondents and search dogs following the deadliest

earthquake.

 

The US President Biden released statement on Saturday that read: "Our thoughts and prayers are with all

those impacted by this terrible hardship. My administration is in contact with Moroccan officials. We are

working expeditiously to ensure American citizens in Morocco are safe, and stand ready to provide any necessary assistance for the Moroccan people. The United States stands by Morocco and my friend King Mohammed VI at this difficult moment.


Britain deployed 60 rescue workers and equipment with a medical team.


Turkey that faced tens of thousands of causalities said to send 1,000 tents and 265 personnel for help.

"France ... is ready to provide immediately its help for the rescue and assistance to the populations affected by this tragedy," said the French Foreign Ministry in a statement.


The World Bank offered “its full support” for the kingdom.


The International Monetary Fund will hold their annual meetings in Marrakech, potentially marking their first

time in 50 years to meet in an African nation. 


King Mohammed VI thanked countries that have already provided assistance without saying whether he will

accept it.
