Pakistan-US deal on sci-tech cooperation extended by 2028

Pak-US collaborative agreement would pave the way to forge a strong partnership in the scientific & technological field.

Pakistan and the US in a significant development agreed to extend the Science and Technology Cooperation by sharing diplomatic note between the officials of the two governments for the next five years till October

2028 on Wednesday. 


Muhammad Saad Ahmed, on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and Michelle Sheckells from the US

State Department exchanged the documents in the presence of His Excellency Masood Khan, Ambassador of Pakistan Embassy in the US and Jason Donovan, the director of Science & Technology Cooperation in Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES/STC), the US State Department.


 

 

The agreement between the two nations showcases the motif to strengthen the scientific, technological and engineering capabilities, to broaden the relationship between the extensive scientific & technological communities of both countries and to promote scientific and technological cooperation for peaceful purposes.


Through the cooperative agreement the two nations will train and exchange scientists and technical experts; exchange the scientific & technical information; convening of joint seminars and meetings; conduct of joint research projects; educational exchanges related to science, technology and engineering; establishment of science-based public-private partnerships; and other forms of scientific and technological cooperation as may be mutually agreed upon.


The arrangement would serve as a framework for promoting cooperation between scientists, engineers and technology experts of the two countries to address challenges pertaining to climate change, energy, agriculture and IT,” said His Excellency Masood Khan, an Ambassador of the Pakistan Embassy in the US.


Further, expressed his hope that a collaborative environment in science and technology would pave the way for a comprehensive dialogue between Pakistan and the US to forge a strong partnership in the scientific & technological field.


Pak-US collaborative agreement on Science and Technology was first signed on June 25, 2003 and has been extended after every five years since then.
