A total of 4 children and 9 people, including a traffic policeman injured in a bomb blast occurred on Zarghoon Road, Quetta city of Pakistan on Wednesday.
“The explosion occurred in a garbage dump under a bridge on Zarghoon Road, when children who were picking trash, were sifting through the garbage” said Jawad Tariq, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).
Jawad explained that “the explosion was not a security lapse.”
Further investigations about the bomb explosion are underway.
The injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital of Quetta out of which two were reported to be in critical condition said Dr Arbab Kamran, the head of the Quetta Trauma Centre.
Muhammed Hamza Shafqaat, the Commissioner of Quetta Division in a post on X, urged residents of Quetta to avoid visiting Zarghoon Road for the next few hours.
On Tuesday, Mir Asghar Rind, a PPP leader and candidate for the Baluchistan Assembly was attacked with a grenade by unknown motorcyclist in Turbat but remained unharmed. Instead, his brother is reported to be injured.
On Monday, the premises of Government Model High School in Kharan was targeted by unknown men during a training session for polling staff.
During 2023, Militant attacks across Pakistan killed around 500 civilians and a similar number of security forces throughout the year, the highest number of fatalities the country has experienced in six years.
