“Minimum government, maximum governance” has been my biggest principle emphasized by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing at the World Governments Summit 2024 in Dubai on Wednesday.

“My biggest principle has been ‘Minimum government, maximum governance’. I have always emphasized creating an environment in which a sense of enterprise and energy in citizens grows. I believe that it is the job of the government to ensure that government interference in people’s lives is minimal,” PM Modi said.

The concept of “Minimum Government Maximum Governance” was perhaps the most alluring slogan of the Indian BJP’s election campaign. Prime Minister Modi has projected himself as a leader who is determined to dramatically improve the effectiveness of the country’s governance mechanisms. The idea of minimum government and maximum governance is an appealing one as it implies that government will be efficient, and that a smaller bureaucracy with more skilled people will be better than a larger one.

Speaking at the World Governments Summit during his visit to the UAE, PM Modi focused on the importance of inclusive and corruption-free governance. He highlighted the growing trust of the Indian population in the government's integrity and dedication over the past few years.

"Indian People have trust in the intent and commitment of the government, because we prioritized public sentiments. We are sensitive to people’s needs. We have focused on fulfilling people’s needs and dreams.

Along with the top-down and bottom-up approaches, we have also moved with the whole of society approach,” PM Modi stated during his address at the summit.

The PM emphasized his government focused on women-led development, strengthening the financial, social, and political conditions of the Indian women. Social and financial inclusion has been his government's priority and over 50 crore people were connected to the banking system as he mentioned in his address on the summit. The world today needs governments that are inclusive, take everyone along, and are clean and free from corruption, he asserted.

"On one hand the world is progressing towards modernity, on the other, the challenges from earlier centuries are intensifying," he said."Terrorism in various forms is bringing new challenges before humanity every day.

Today, climate challenges are becoming widespread with time. There are domestic concerns as well as the international system seems in disarray," Modi said.

In his remarks, Modi also said Dubai is becoming the epicenter of the global economy, commerce and technology.
