The Ministry of Justice's Corrections Headquarters and Baekseok University with mutual cooperation signed a business agreement on educating inmates with character education on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 10:30 am.
Baekseok University, which has achieved many achieve-ments in the field of character education.
This agreement on character education establishes a close cooperation system including joint research and development to improve the quality of the character education courses for the prisoners. This is to provide an opportunity for a new leap forward in character education for prisoners.
The purpose is to develop characteristics of attitudes, beliefs and behaviors that are important for a person to be a responsible citizen.
The ministry of Justice's Correctional Headquarters, by using this agreement as an opportunity, will create a foundation for cooperation with academia in various fields for the correction and rehabilitation of inmates, and target juvenile prisoners (tentative name).
(Tentative name) presents ‘Offender Education Curriculum’: A curriculum for juvenile prisoners to support their return to society based on true reflection, including insight into life from the victim’s perspective and introduction of victim cases.
“We plan to establish a new ‘offender education’ course so that growing boys can have the ‘opportunity to gain fundamental insight into their criminal behavior” stated by the ministry of justice.
The signing ceremony was attended by Shin Yong-hae, the Director of Corrections Headquarters and Taek-hyeon jang, the chairman of Innovation Committee of Baekseok University along with other key figures.
Looking forward, they decided to continue social efforts to create a society safe from crime in various fields, include promoting the character development of inmates through the ‘S-PIPES character education model based on Baekseok spirit’.
S-PIPES Character Education model is based on six characteristics values include Spirituality, Philosophy, Intellectuality, Physicality, Emotionality, Sociality intended to develop balanced and organized character.
