At least 20 died and other 21injured in a road accident on the Karakorum Highway in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer district, Pakistan on Friday morning reported by the rescue officials.
Shoukat Riaz, the rescue officer at Diamer district said, “the bus travelling from Rawalpindi to Gilgit overturned and landed near the banks of the Indus River as the driver lost control near Gunar Farm.”
The incident took place at around 5:30 am” Mr. Riaz added.
The injured have been shifted to Chilas Hospital, the rescue officer said.
“Among the 21 injured, the condition of five is very critical” said the city police official Azmat Shah while speak
ing to AFP.
Mr. Shah added that the news of the accident was announced from the mosque’s loudspeaker and urged people to donate blood for the injured.
The large number of people arrived the hospital to donate blood for the injured after the announcement.
The local volunteers arrived for help in transferring the injured and dead bodies to the hospital.
Shahbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan expressed his deep grief on the loss of lives and passed his sympathy to the bereaved families.
The injured will be provided with “every possible medical treatment” said the PM Shahbaz Sharif.
The Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed his condolences on the incident and “heartfelt sympathies” for
the families of the victims. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
