SEOULDAL: "the moon of Seoul" offering city's charm day and night.

"The Moon of Seoul" a safe tethered gas (helium) balloon attraction will allow passengers to view the cityscape from the altitude of 150 meters.

South Korea has launched the moon of Seoul; a moon-shaped helium balloon ride set to offer a unique aerial experience by introducing SEOULDAL, in Grassy Field of Yeouido Park, Seoul from July 2024 that will provide citizens with a truly engaging airborne experience.


An opening ceremony for the balloon ride was held on July 6 themed "Summer Picnic with SEOULDAL." The name "SEOULDAL" combines "Seoul" and "Dal," (Korean word for "moon”)," aims to habitual capture the essence of the moon-shaped attraction as well as to attract both domestic and international tourists, offering them a unique opportunity to experience the city's charm day and night.


SEOULDAL is a gas balloon using non-flammable gas for enhanced safety is tethered to the ground by cables, which can only rise vertically ensures minimal risk of straying from the designated flight path.


Starting from July, the helium balloon attraction will allow passengers to view the cityscape from the altitude of 150 meters,” according to the Seoul Metropolitan Government.


According to the city government, the selected citizens will have a chance to experience the balloon ride free of cost through online and offline events during the trial period from July 6 to Aug. 22. 


The free of cost balloon ride services for the specific time period will allow the city government to get the feedback from passengers for further improvements before it’s official launch on August 23,2024.


After August 23, the boarding fee for adults aged 19 to 64 will cost 25,000 won ($18.04), and for children and teenagers will be 20,000. The Persons with disabilities, Persons of distinguished service to the State can enjoy the 30% discount. The Group (20 or more) discount will be 10%. Moreover, the citizens holding Climate Card and the city’s unlimited transit pass users will receive 10% discount for the ride.


The balloon ride is scheduled to operate from Tuesdays to Sundays from 12 pm to 10pm that will accommodate 30 passengers per ride. Mondays will be close for the regular inspections said the Metropolitan government.


"We will continue to discover unique tourism contents that lets people experience Seoul's attractive spaces in a variety of ways," said Kim Young-hwan, the director general of the Tourism and Sports Bureau.


"We will continue to cooperate with the industry to make SEOULDAL a global tourist attraction" added Kil Ki-yon, CEO of Seoul Tourism Organization,


The Construction of the “Moon of Seoul” began in January this year. It is expected to be the landmark by offering chance to enjoy the night time view of the Hangang River and the city the Seoul to the visitors.
