MOFA, the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in order to facilitate the citizens is introducing a new system of documents attestation through courier services ensuring a quicker, more efficient, and cost-effective solution announced by the Ministry on July 16,2024
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with its liaison offices in Karachi and Lahore in collaboration with several courier companies, aims to streamline the document attestation process for the citizens.
“The designated courier companies include TCS, M&P, Gerry’s, Leopard, and ECS, all of which are operational in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi that will be authorized to collect all types of documents for the Apostille from the applicant, except legal documents (Power of Attorney, court documents, Successions & Affidavit) then will be attested by the MOFA” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan.
This development follows Pakistan’s accession to the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Lega
lization for Foreign Public Documents (Apostille Convention) of 1961, earlier in 2023.
“This convention simplifies and shortens the public document authentication process for public documents to a single formality: the issuance of an authentication certificate known as an “Apostille” by the designated authority of the country where the document was issued” explained by the Pakistan Foreign Office.”
“Thus, foreign public documents authenticated by Apostille can be directly presented to the authorities concerned without any other attestation requirement” the FO added.
According to the Ministry of Foreign affairs, the purpose of the convention is to eliminate the traditional requirement of legalization, which often involves a long and costly process. Instead, the issuance of Apostille certificate by the competent authority will serves as the sufficient authentication for the documents use worldwide.
MOFA’s new development of “Apostille attestation” service is expected to significantly ease the process for Pakistani citizens needing to authenticate documents for use abroad, ensuring a quicker, more efficient, and cost-effective solution.
Starting from July 18, Walk in Facility would be suspended announced by the ministry of Foreign Affairs.
