There’s a limit to hospitality. They swore at us; they swore at Pakistan. They talk against the integrity of Pakistan. They carry out proper rallies [against Pakistan]. “They burn our flags,“I think Pakistan needs to rethink their hospitality."

A gang of extremists, said to be Afghan nationals vandalized the Pakistani consulate in Frankfurt, Germany that was condemned by the government of Pakistan.

The viral videos circulating on media shows gang of extremists with Afghanistan flags wrapped around their shoulders, attacked at the Pakistani consulate in Germany's Frankfurt, throwing stones and pulling down the Pakistani National flag and replaced it with Afghan flag.

According to the Pakistani mission, the incident occurred on July 20, when a “gang of extremists” attacked the consulate and “endangered” the lives of the consular staff on the premises.

Pakistan strongly condemns the extremist’s vandalism urged the government of Germany to take immediate measures to prosecute those involved and hold to account those responsible for the security lapse.

“It is the responsibility of the host government to protect the sanctity of the consular premises and ensure the security of diplomats under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, 1963” said the statement issued by the Foreign Office of Pakistan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “we urge the German Government to take immediate measures to fulfill its responsibilities under the Vienna Conventions and ensure the security of the diplomatic missions and staff of Pakistan in Germany.”

The Pakistani embassy in Germany by condemning the extremists reprehensible act said on its official X, “We are in contact with the German authorities to ensure such a situation doesn’t arise again and the miscreants face legal consequences.”

Ishaq Dar, the foreign minister of Pakistan said in the similar statement that “we have urged the German government to fulfill its responsibilities under the Vienna Conventions and ensure the security of the diplomatic missions and staff of Pakistan in Germany.”

“We have also pressed them for taking immediate measures to arrest and prosecute those involved in yester

day’s incident and hold to account those responsible for the lapses in the security” he added.

Khawaja Asif, the Defense Minister of Pakistan lashed out at the Afghan nationals, saying Islamabad needed to rethink its hospitality towards the Afghan citizens in the wake of this incident.

He told Geo News, “There’s a limit to hospitality. They swore at us; they swore at Pakistan. They talk against the integrity of Pakistan. They carry out proper rallies [against Pakistan].

“They burn our flags, claiming that Pakistan fought wars for Kabul. “I think Pakistan needs to rethink their hospitality,” he said.

According to the German media DW, Saturday’s demonstration was arranged to “highlight complaints against Pakistan’s military and intelligence services, which organizers accused of killing critics and political opponents.”

DW reported that about 400 people carrying Afghan flags participated in the demonstration outside the consulate and the State Security division was investigating the vandalism by some of them.

About 10 days before this incident, the predominantly Afghan protesters associated to a Pakistani political movement protested outside the Pakistan High Commission in London’s Belgravia.

Dozens of activists gathered outside the mission, willing justice for Gilaman Wazir, a slain Afghan poet and activist of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement stabbed to death in Islamabad.

German authorities have increasingly found Afghan asylum-seekers in the country to criminal activities and announced considering resuming deportations of criminals to Afghanistan last month.

The government of Germany ceased deporting Afghan migrants after the Taliban regained power in August 2021 due to the risk of death in their home country.

"It is clear to me that people who pose a potential threat to Germany's security must be deported quickly,” announced by Nancy Faeser, the German Interior Minister in News conference on June 4.

She emphasized that her country’s “security interests clearly outweigh the interests of those affected.”

“We are doing everything possible to find ways to deport criminals and dangerous people” to Afghanistan and Syria” she added.

On July 8, Germany abruptly announced the closure of its consulate in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi until further notice. It cited “imminent security concerns” but did not specify them.

Last Friday, the consulate announced, “the German diplomatic facility had “resumed normal operations.”

The abrupt closure of the German consulate apparently had surprised and upset the Pakistani hosts.

“Consulates in various cities offer important consular services and promote business-to-business ties,” Mumtaz Baloch, spokesperson of Pakistani foreign ministry told reporters on Friday, just hours before the German consulate announced the resumption of its operations.

“Closure of operations of any consular mission in Karachi would affect these services and slow down engagement with the biggest metropolis and the financial and commercial center of Pakistan,” Miss Baloch said.
