According to the reports, 18 dead as Saurya Airlines plane with 19 onboard crashes during takeoff, at the
Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal's Kathmandu on Wednesday (July 24).
All aboard - 18 Nepalis and a Yemeni citizen - were employees of the carrier,according to police.
As per The Kathmandu Post, 19 people, including aircrew aboard the Pokhara-bound plane that crashed during takeoff caught fire after skidding on runway at around 11 am said Premnath Thakur, TIA spokesperson.
Tribhuvan International Airport said in a statement, "CRJ7 (Reg-9NAME) of Sourya Airlines took off from Kathmandu at 11:11 am local time during the flight to Pokhara, turned right and crashed at a place on the east
side of the runway.
It is reported that the fire was brought under control and the rescue work was started immediately.
“The dead bodies of all 18 have been recovered, while 1 injured person was rescued and taken to the
hospital."
Last year, Nepal saw its worst plane crash in the history of more than 30 years when at least 68 people died
that were travelling in a Yeti Airlines flight went down near Pokhara.
