Next Week, a four-day civil defense exercise will be held in Seoul including an air raid evacuation drill on the
fourth day, announced by the city government on Friday.
This defense exercise is a part of the annual Ulchi exercise that held across the nation from Monday to Thursday in an effort to check on contingency plans to prepare for war and other national emergency situations in
the country.
This year's exercise will involve simulations of a drone attack and the launch of trash-carrying balloons from
North Korea.
In Seoul, about 170 institutions and some 140,000 people will take part in this exercise of year 2024.
According to the authorities, the city government will open a war situation room and conduct a discussion on wartime issues along with tabletop exercise.
On Monday, Mayor Oh Se-hoon will preside over a meeting on simulated drone threat situation, said the
officials.
On Tuesday, the government is planning to held a counter-terrorism exercise at the Olympic Gymnastics
Arena in eastern Seoul to practice in advance a damage in case of drone threats or infiltration of special operations units against multi-use facilities as per officials.
On August 22, Finally an anti-air raid evacuation exercise will be held in which people are required to evacuate to the nearest shelters or underground facilities as part of a civil defense drill at 2 p.m.
The vehicles traveling in the traffic restricted areas should stop and pull over under police guidance for five
minutes after the alarm goes off.
The locations of the shelters are available at the National Disaster and Safety Portal and the Emergency Ready App.
Ulchi-Freedom Guardian, a combined military exercise between South Korea and the United States initiated in 1976 and is conducted annually during August or September.
