Google, a global tech took an initiative to produce 500,000 chrome books in Pakistan marked the occasion by presenting the first device to Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan on September 5, 2024.
Scott Beaumont, the president of Google Asia Pacific (APAC) presented the locally manufactured Chromebook to the prime minister of Pakistan during the ceremony held in Islamabad.
PM Shehbaz highly appreciated the contribution of Google on the global level and an initiative in Pakistan as well.
He expressed his belief that the capable young generation in the field of information technology could play a key role in the country’s economic development.
Pakistan’s federal and provincial governments should utilize all possible resources to ensure their education
and empowerment.
The government had set a target of IT exports worth $25 billion in the next five years, adding that the target was “quite achievable” said the PM.
He asked IT experts and entrepreneurs to present a plan that will be helpful for the government to achieve the target for promoting small and medium enterprises and freelancers.
PM Shehbaz also stressed on the country’s governance system to be completely paperless and digitized to get rid of massive corruption in the people’s best interest.
“Focusing on technology would help increase economic activities in the country” said Google Regional Director for Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka Farhan S. Qureshi.
“There were huge opportunities for freelancers in Pakistan to move forward in various fields of technology” he added.
Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja mentioned about Google’s important role in the development of Pakistan.
She said, Google was playing an important role in the digitization of Pakistan under the premier’s vision.
