Two Korean climbers who went missing in the Alps have been found dead, three days after they were reported missing, said the officials of Korean embassy in France on Tuesday.
Rescue officials discovered the bodies of two, identified them as a man in his 50s and a woman in her 40s, on a slope about 100 meters from the Mont Blanc summit, at around 1:15 p.m., according to the embassy.
The two climbers were among the seven members with a mountaineering club that visited Chamonix-Mont-
Blanc last week.
According to the report, the team informed about four of the members missing on Saturday right after they
lost contact with them.
Two of the four people were rescued by a helicopter the next day, at an altitude of 4,100 meters.
The rescued climbers said that they were unable to descend due to worsening weather.
According to the Korean Embassy in France, earlier they dispatched a consular official as soon as they received the report on the missing nationals, and are working with local authorities for rescue operations.
The Korean embassy has informed the family members of the deceased of the body discovery and plans to
provide necessary assistance.
According to the local media, two Italians who went missing with the ill-fated South Korean climbers were also found dead.
Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in Alp, rising 4,805.59 m (15,766 ft) above sea level, located on the Franco-Italian border and the 11th most prominent mountain in the world. It is popular for outdoor activities like
hiking, climbing, trail running and winter sports like skiing, and snowboarding.
