The 6.0 magnitude earthquake strike off the east coast of Honshu, Japan a day after Taiwan hit by 7.8 magnitude earthquake with strongest temblor on Wednesday, injured 1000 of people, killing nine and at least 50 remained missing.

According to Taiwan media “at least nine people were killed in Hualien County, including three hikers and one engineering worker struck by falling rocks while on a trail, and at least 946 were injured.”

The strong tremors set off at least nine landslides and debris collapsed hillsides onto Suhua Highway in the eastern city of Hualien. The people are trapped in two road tunnels along the Suhua highway, the most dangerous roads in Taiwan City between the mountainside and ocean reported by Taiwan’s National Fire Agency (NFA).

Thousands of buildings have been collapsed of their foundations. Since Wednesday morning, over 50 strong shocks have forced many people to take refuge in tents or in emergency shelters outside their homes. All communication in the affected areas is cut off.

According to the CNN report, 75 people trapped in the tunnels have been rescued in the morning.

The earthquake that struck Tiwan is counted the strongest in 25 years -set off Tsunami warnings on the island and across neighboring countries, said Seismology officials.

The great devastation has been seen in the capital Taipei, include the vehicles over on road sides, suspension of city’s subway services, damage of furniture and the building tiles as well.

According to Al Jazeera news, “A series of aftershocks were felt in the capital about 15 minutes later and continued over the next hour. Authorities said aftershocks could continue for the next three to four days due to the earthquake’s intensity.”

After tsunami warnings in Taiwan, Japan and the Philippines, the United States Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii said that the threat had “passed”. No damage or casualties were reported from quake-generated waves.

Earlier, the Japan Meteorological advises residents on the islands of Okinawa, Miyakojima and Yaeyama to evacuate by issuing the warning of waves up to 3 meters (9.8ft) high.
